Doggie Dash My first 5k back

What a great weekend!!  I had my first night out since A was born went to see Pacific Mambo Orchestra Friday night with my brother while hubs stayed home with A.  It was great although it felt kind of weird and I was tired since my bed time lately has been 9pm and I didn't get in bed until 11pm!!! :-)

Saturday we went to the doggie dash and hubs and Aiden were cheering me on while I ran with our crazy dog!  Got to see lots of my running friends, it was good to be back on the scene!  I ran it in 27:31 which I am SOOOOO happy with considering I had only put in 3 weeks of training and it's been 2 months since A was born.  We had to make two stops because my poor little dog got some stickers in her paw.  She was pulling me as usual and getting a little distracted when I couldn't keep up but we did great.  As I was nearing the finish someone was yelling great job Aiden!  I thought how do they know my sons name and I don't have him with me.  Turns out the little guy that just passed me (about 8-10 years old) was named Aiden too!  I thought is this a sign of things to come!!! :-)

Another thing that happened there was we saw another heeler mix that looked exactly like our dog and had the same mannerisms and was just as fast of a runner.  So we started talking to the owners and they adopted their dog the same month from the same Animal Humane shelter and their dog was part of a litter too and was about 2 months old when they adopted him!!  So long lost brother and sister reunited!!  Unfortunately they didn't get along very well :-( we had to hold them to take this pic or they would have gone after each other snarled teeth and all!  Maybe that's how Lexi got the little nick in her ear she's had since we adopted her, a rough litter!  Glad we got to meet them and if they got along we could have all gone on runs together!

Lastly I had to go shopping, I say HAD to because with only 2 weeks left until I have to go back to work I figured I better go buy some work pants that actually fit comfortably until I get back to where I was.  :-)  I can't believe I only have 2 weeks left!!!!! It's going to be hard being away!

Happy Monday!

Look at his little belly!! :-)

Cost of Triathlons + Cost of new baby = ??

Spoiler alert...  Conclusion to my very valid study a triathlete costs about the same as a child!

The cost of housing a triathlete for 1 year:

Fuel (gels, sports drinks, etc.): $200 ( I actually don't spend that much here because I hate gels and sports drinks so I keep them to a minimum and try to supplement with natural foods)

Race Entry Fees: $250 - $600 (I've been there done that with the big name expensive races so I will be sticking with the cheaper lesser known brand names for any of my big races)

Extra cost in groceries: $250 - $500 (I actually don't spend too much extra here but that might be because I have a hard time learning how to taper my food intake when it's off season)

New gear: $300 - $3,000 (are you just buying new tubes, a new tri suite and some new goggles or do you need a new wheel set and a fancy helmet?)

Coach: ?  Nope not gonna happen on my budget (that's why I became level 1 USAT certified before training for my 1st IM so I could just train myself)  Ha!!

Travel Costs: $200 - $1,500 (I camp when I can, never fly, try to race close to home whenever possible, but if you do a half or full IM in a race year it will easily reach the upper end)

So I tend to be very cheap frugal and tend to sit on the low end of this but my guess is some of you out there could easily surpass the high end of this :-) $950 - $5,800

The Cost Of Raising A Child From Birth To Age 2
  • Child birth: $8,000*
  • Diapers for 2-1/2 years: $1,800 for cloth or $2,400 for disposable
  • Breast milk or formula for first year: Breastfeeding up to $450, or around $2,000 for mid-priced formulas
  • Commercial baby food second year:  $1,300
  • Baby clothes: $912 for the first 2 years
  • Childcare:  $8,000 -$12,000+ for 2 years
The total cost of having a baby in the first 2 years falls somewhere between $12,462 and $26,612. You can break this down to something like $500 to $1000 a month.
Yes, in the end, babies are perfectly manageable cost wise. A baby costs no more than a car payment in the first 2 years.

If everything goes as planned I hope to spend about  $5,700 in the first year that's assuming there aren't any surprises with the cost of child birth and my parents actually do end up moving up here to help with child care (no pressure!!).  And btw who has a car payment that is 500-1,000 ?!??!!  I've never had a car payment over $200 but again I'm not a big spender...

So if you break it all down it looks like we will be able to afford at least 1 triathlete and 1 baby on 1 salary.  Now if hubs decides to start doing triathlons (which he might/or might not have threatened promised in the past) or that he really wants a 2nd child then we will need to have 2 salaries or we'll just have to pick one or the other.....  :-)

What do you think?  Am I totally off on my calculations?

On a side note I thought I'd share my new favorite product.  I went cold turkey when I got pregnant with both my beloved Diet Dr. Peppers and Caffeinated Teas so I found a slightly flavored carbonated water that has no artificial sweeteners and is all natural.  I LOVE IT!!!! Now don't get these if you are expecting something sweet.  It's like having soda water with a twist of Lime or whatever fruit flavor you pick. Which is enough for me not to get bored of plain water...

Photo dump and catching up...

So as most of you guys know by now hubs and I are expecting a boy, we also had very early on miraculously agreed on a boy and girl name quicker than we've ever come to any decision.  If it was a girl Adrianna and if it was a boy Aiden.  So we've been calling the little guy Aiden since we found out about a month ago.  Well just yesterday I saw that the name made #10 on the most popular boy names! AHHHHH!!!!!  I spent all of yesterday trying to convince hubs maybe we should go with Antonio or Marcus or Pierre.  He refused to even consider it he said nope it's stuck I've been calling him Aiden so it's Aiden.  Well I have to admit as I tried using the other names (just to bug him)  they didn't sound quite right.  So as much as I didn't want to our son will apparently have a popular name.  But we like it, it matches our personalities.  Aiden Richard Arnold :-)

My 5k and boot camp classes finished for the semester which made me sad but the ones who participated in the Run for the Zoo 5k did awesome and exceeded their goals!  I'm so proud of everyone in both my classes they have all worked so hard.  I am taking next semester off considering I can barely run anymore.  After about 1 mile I'm in excruciating shin and calf pain so I have decided to stick to spinning, swimming, walking and weight lifting for my last 3 months of pregnancy.  Or my stomach might get big enough to be in the way of spinning too!  I'm going nuts but I'll make it!  I'm just not cut out for the whole process of being pregnant but I know I will love the final out come.  So technically this will be my 1st mother's day which just sounds weird!!! But I'll get use to it.

I took some pics of a friend for her first mother's day with her cute baby.

So tomorrow hubs and I take off for a much needed and long vacation!!!  Guess it's kind of like a baby moon

since it will be the last vacation we'll be taking for a LONG time...  We are going to Colombia, SA which is where all my extended family are and hubs has never been or met any of them.  He's excited I'm just not sure he realizes what he's getting into :-0 I have a very big family!  Have you ever seen My Big Fat Greek Wedding?  Yup well it's like that!

We will get to spend 2 days at this all inclusive resort and I can't wait!!  Just not so excited about wearing a maternity bathing suit but I'll get over it.  For me the best part will be eating all the fruit and foods that I miss so much from there.  So I will be MIA again for a little while, I guess you guys are getting use to that but I'll make sure and post photos once I get back.

Happy training!! Run a mile for me!!

Ironbaby, maybe?

So remember there were a few posts where I complained about being really dizzy?  Then there was the Ironman where I got so dizzy it made me have to walk a lot of the run?  Well I thought it was all going to make sense after today's appointment but it's still kind of a mystery.  Because I do have this announcement to make:

So I've known for a while now but I still had a question as to exactly when.  The due date is being calculated as Aug. 24th which puts me into my 4th month and means that technically conception should have been December 1st.  But that I surely can't remember what exactly we were doing that date I mean we weren't exactly planning this out that extensively.  The Ironman was on November 18 and I was getting dizzy spells a few weeks before that.  So I may have to look into that again after this is all over.  But then I did the Nutcracker tri in December so I was definitely pregnant by then. :-)  Then I tried to go skiing in January where I totally was sucking air the whole time I could barely do 3-4 runs each morning and afternoon I felt so worthless but I guess it's normal to be out of breath. :-)  I get out of breath just speaking now try giving a new hire orientation while having to take a deep breath in the middle of each sentence.

I thought I should get a shirt that says "It's Ok I'm pregnant."  Or one I can wear to the gym that says "I'm not a wimp I'm pregnant."  Cause I sure do feel like a wimp right now.  I had to refrain from working out for about a month and a half because every time I did I would get extremely dizzy.  So the nurse told me I could only get my heart rate up to 50% of my max which I laughed cause I said Ok so basically I can walk to the mailbox to check the mail!  Now that the Puke trimester I mean 1st trimester is over I am no longer getting dizzy and I am back to working out just not at the same intensity I use to.    This is my first pregnancy so everything is new and scary to me and it's so weird that my body is not my own anymore, I'm sharing it with someone and I can't just tell myself to push past the pain.

I'm not going to go into detail about my complaints or how horrible I've felt but I will say this much THERE IS NO GLOWING ABOUT THIS!!  It's not pretty and I know it'll be worth it in the end but I already can't wait for the baby to be here and ready to get back to working out like normal! :-)  Now that I have a due date I can plan my race calender for as soon as it's born.  I'll start with a 5k and work my way back up!

Hubs is so excited and of course wants a boy, I'll be happy either way as long as it's a little athlete :-)  I'm sure I have a lot to learn along the way.  So there you go that's why it's been kind of quite here on the blog front, it's been hard not to say anything but we wanted to wait until we actually had a due date!  I've also been having a little bit of a hard time adjusting to not doing my normal workouts.  But I'm so happy I still get to keep teaching my beginners 5k class and Boot camp!!!

It was pretty funny seeing it jumping around it wouldn't sit still long enough for them to take a good pic but we finally got some!

So if you have an excellent piece of advice that I absolutely have to have during this pregnancy I'm all ears.  Or how about you guys what should hubs know to help him get through this alive?!
