Fitness headlines and snow days

What's that saying "With knowledge comes great power"? Or maybe I'm just making that one up?  But with our wonderful world of social media, internet information, we have a lot of very "knowledgeable" and "powerful" people in the world these days right?  I admit I get sucked into the trap of reading articles with catchy headlines.  If I read something that makes sense to me and I like I sometimes pass it along and share it.  But how responsible am I for the validity of that information I'm passing along.  Most of the time we assume everyone does their fact checking but really come on do you fact check everything you share?  So just for laughs I went to a certain media outlet to catch up on some recent headlines.  See I don't get to watch the news anymore since having a child I spend my mornings trying to get myself and little one ready instead of sipping my tea in front of the boob tube.  Well here are some of the headlines I read under the health and fitness section:

- "These are the odds you'll get cancer in your lifetime."  - Do I really want to know? And come on if I click on that link what are the odds it's going to have helpful insightful information?

- "Just how big is a normal penis?" - If you have to ask or read about it then do  you really  have any business knowing my guess is most people who click on this one are curious teens or guys sitting at home alone on a Saturday night.

- "Can these daily meds give you dementia?" - Ok maybe I should read this one because I've been very forgetful lately and I know it has nothing to do with being distracted by a toddler that doesn't sit still or know the meaning of don't touch that.

I didn't learn anything new about health or fitness today but I did get a good laugh and a nice break from my stressful work deadlines.  Now back to the real stuff.

It's a nice distraction sometimes going down some of the internet wormholes that are out there but how much of it is counterproductive or harmful.  Do you ever find your self believing things you later wander, hmmm I wander how valid that study was?

We can all find statistics to support our cause and I've been guilty of this plenty of times.  In the end it all comes down to following your own gut feeling and making as well informed decision as possible.  So to that I stick to what happened in real life with my fitness and learn from it.

Last week was snow day after snow day.  I still managed to work out, indoor spin in the garage, plyometrics dvd, run alone while hubs stayed home with the kiddo.  This week, stress, deadlines, stress but no snow.  Yet I've already skipped 2 workouts!  Lesson, I need to manage my stress effectively and I'm not scared of a little snow. :-)

Happy Training!

I saw the penis one too, and had to laugh. That had to have been written by a man. because really does a woman care?

as a nurse I have seen so many and really I just don't care.
